How much money should I bring to the Bahamas? I am traveling to the Bahamas with 3 teenagers in July. Being the only adult means I pay for everything. Are there any beach communities left in Florida that still have plenty of public access to a nice beach... ...without the ocean and the sand being blocked from view and taken up with private property, hotels, and other no trespassing places? Where to go in the tropics? Is there an affordable, 'authentic' paradise' that has culture but no crowds? My wife and I have enough airline miles to fly practically anywhere in the world. This year, it's our 10th anniversary. Where should we go for a 10 day trip, with 50% relaxing, 50% hiking / snorkling / sightseeing? Our requirements (in order of importance): 1. Peaceful -- few tourists / crowds 2. Excellent, plush beach w/good snorkling 3. "Paradise" like surroundings (i.e., Moorea, Kauai) 4. Mountains w/trails for light hiking 5. An "authentic" place w/local culture 6. Ability to get around cheaply without renting a car 7. Not absurdly expensive to stay in a decent hotel/villa/etc (i.e., not the Maldives) 8. Best resort for Myrtle Beach, SC? I'm going to the beach with some family and a few friends this summer. We were stuck between the Caravelle and Seamist, but after a few horrific reviews, we're beginning to second guess for both. So what would you recommend for me? I'm going with family, which means my six year old nephew's coming along as well. I'm not asking for a complete G-rated hotel, but I want to be assured that I have to LEAVE my hotel to go to a big party. My best friend and I are the Techie kind of guys so WiFi would be appreciated. I'm asking for quality, but good prices as well. I'm looking for some stuff I can do at the hotel, considering I do want to do a bit of relaxing there. So some pools, a jacuzzi, maybe an arcade, or gym or something. But with good quality! Not a mangy place. Three words. OCEAN FRON VIEW. I know this sounds a bit demanding, but I really want the make the best of this trip. It's the first time I've been to the beach in 3 years so it matters quite a lot to me. I've had a few bad experiences a while back, with The Paradise Inn. It looked pretty good and our neighbor promised good prices, and from the website, it looked pretty good. We went down there, it was 4 stories high, dried vomit on the stairs, squeaky elevator, small dirty pool, broken locks on the door, plus, we had to walk to the next hotel across the street for ice. I do NOT want to repeat this again. So what was your favorite place to stay? What would you recommend? PS. There was a hotel near us....more near the southside, with a bunch of flags on it and a bowling alley with an ocean front view. Places to eat at Paradise Island & Nassau, Bahamas? I'm traveling to Paradise Island & Nassau with 3 teenagers in the next two weeks and would like to know if anyone has suggestions for places to eat that won't break the bank. I've already heard that the restaurants at Atlantis are extremely expensive so I will avoid those. Our hotel has a free continental breakfast that we will definitely take advantage of and I don't mind getting lunch (like fish & chips) at the small stands throughout Atlantis but I'd like to get a few suggestions on good and affordable dinner places outside of Atlantis. We will also be staying in Nassau our last 2 days at Cable beach so any suggestions on places to eat there would be greatly appreciated as well. Thank you in advance!

Help! Need advice on Cancun hotels? Well I've thought it over and have decided that the Hotetur Beach Paradise in Cancun is way to far away from all the entertainment in the Hotel Zone. So in order to keep around my budget there is a choice between Avalon Grand Cancun or the Oasis Viva Beach ? Tips, opinions, and advice are very much needed! I wanna keep a low price for the flight + hotel. So I'm looking at an all-inclusive on bookit.com. Have pretty much found the cheapest in a good area to be around $537 & $585 per person...including flight and hotel stay! I want to be able to have extra money to spend on the entertainment and site seeing.

Why don't more Canadians live on the ocean beaches? Canada is great as it is, but I notice one thing missing. Canada could have at least one city along the lines of "Monte Carlo on the French Riviera with 24-hour nightlife and the surf and sand. Or like South Beach, Miami, Florida or Fort Lauderdale (South Florida) where tropical beaches with latin salsa music and delicious cuisines all along an ocean strip with jacuzis and hotel lounges. You could put more of that in Canada in summer when beach weather permits. Or like Los Angeles sunset strip or Hollywood Boulevard. Don't Canadians like to vacation to these beach cities every so often? I don't want the Maritimes to become like that though because it has a unique flavour of its own, a more intimate traditional flavour. But depending on the mood, you may want the night-life techno DJ club cafe party-all-night type of beach town, and Canada doesn't seem to have that. Canada could make a city more like Miami Beach and use gas lamps to warm the air and make this beach paradise off the East Coast of Nunavut. Why not? And then have casino cruises to Hans Island. Why don't Canadians want to live on the beach sometimes and make castles in the sand and surf the waves of the ocean? I guess Canada could have a sister city to one of these: 1) Honolulu, Miami Beach, Fort Lauderdale, Cancun, Rio De Janeiro, Buenos Aires, Monte Carlo, San Remo, Barcelona, Bangkok, Beirut, Tel Aviv And you could eat maple creams on the beach and mix it with rum and tequilla Edit: But Vancouver is not a Canadian city, it's the Westernmost part of China. But of all of China, my favourite Chinese city is Vancouver, Ex-British Columbia. This may be the first time in history that Chinese cities got to host back-to-back Olympics. Cancun Beach erosion, update anyone? Hello all. I have seen some questions and comments about this but I have my own insight and I will also need a little help from someone who is honest. A note to the locals of Cancun who answer this, I understand that tourism is important to you and you try to encourage people to come, but you also must take in consideration to give true information that is detailed and not vague. First, I would like to tell you that our tour operators DO NOT TELL US the truth, so I need help here. Cancun is a beautiful place but would you spend 15, 000 pesos for one week in a place that has no beach? Or a place that is as run down as Dos Playas, Imperial Las Perlas or El Pueblito? No, I didn't think so and it's not the Mexicans to blame this is the fault of our local tour operators. This is why it is very important that we are happy with our food and hotel, or we will make very bad reviews and discourage people to come because of the fault of tour operators! This is not the first time I have been to Cancun, I will tell you which hotels I have been to before the erosion: - Grand Oasis and Oasis Cancun - Nicest beach, very crowded, food is good but not luxury. I would go back only if it is my only choice. Right now, the beach here and at The Grand Oasis is still ERODED as of two weeks ago, my cousin went and was very disappointed. Check Tripadvisor for pictures this month. - Barcelo Tucancun: This was a well run small hotel, the service was good the food was ok, limited selection the Mexican food itself was very good. The rooms are shabby, like Oasis but acceptable. The staff is MUCH better than Oasis. The beach I heard is small but not affected by erosion, IS THIS TRUE? - Golden Parnessus: I stayed here, this was my favorite hotel, very clean, the food and service was outstanding and the rooms and bathrooms were luxury. I heard that the beach was good there, but I can't go because I have a baby, it's adults only. - Gran Caribe Real: I loved this hotel, it was the best service I ever got, everyone has a good view. The food was outstanding. The only thing I didn't like was the beach, it was not as nice as the one near Barcelo Tucancun and Oasis. But I did hear that the erosion has been restored, is it true? Does anyone have pictures? These are hotels I have not stayed at but are offered to us here: - The Great Parnessus: This is a new hotel, is it true? New construction? I heard though that the beach has erosion, I saw pictures this month on TripAdvisor, true? - Dos PLayas: I would never stay there - Imperial Las Perlas: Same, I would not stay here bad beach too - Oasis Viva: I visited this one and I didn't like the beach much there. - Hoteteur: Has very bad reviews and I wouldn't stay there. Not sure about the beach update though - RIU: I heard a lot about this, and it is offered to us at the same price as Barcelo Tucancun. When I went to visit this hotel, 1) I was harrassed on the way there and when I went there to meet a friend for timeshares and free stuff. The staff was rude.2) The beach wasn't particularly special. - Crown Paradise: This hotel, we went to eat there when I stayed at the Golden Parnessus (which at the time was Golden Crown Paradise), this hotel had food all over the place and screaming out of control kids running everywhere. Wouldn't stay there. - Aquamarina: Run down. Too expensive for 16,000 pesos - Flamingo: Also looks run down, too expensive for 16,000 pesos. That's the only hotels really offered here. What I need is an update in front of the Great Parnassus and Gran Caribe Real. Thanks all! I really want to come back to Cancun, more so than Cuba but it has to be worth it!

Are there any beach communities left in Southern Cal. that still have plenty of public access to the beach... ...without the ocean and the sand being blocked from view and taken up with private property, hotels, and other no trespassing places? I'm talking about a community anywhere on the coast of Southern California where anyone can just walk down to a nice beach and not have to get in a car and drive for miles and miles past mansions and resorts before they can even see a beach, much less have free and easy access to it. 2 weeks in Paradise? A few people call it "Paradise" i call it Burning. I'm going for 2 weeks to Aruba in August. It's very hot there even when you walk on the sand the sand is really burning your feet. I have timeshare in Aruba that's why i'm going for 2 weeks with family. But i've been to Aruba a few times before so i've done alot more than go swimming. Vacation is in less than 5 days! Anxiousness is setting in! What am I forgetting? lol? I'm so excited that I'm going to Florida in a few days I don't know how to act anymore. Bahamas Wedding, suggestions? I want to have a more intimate wedding, like just my fiance and I, and possibly our best man/ maid of honor. My mom is considering taking us to the Bahamas? My mom is considering taking my brother, my friend, and I to the Nassau/Paradise Islands in June. I was the one who brought up the idea, and we have discussed it pretty in depth. It seems to me that she is on the fence about the idea, but if there was any way she was leaning, it'd be on the "yes" side. I've done everything from studying up on the islands and telling her all about them, to dropping very subtle hints (While not nagging, no worries), to showing her breathtaking pictures of the beaches as well as the hotel I found. I'm just so happy, to be in my dream home... the last cabin door lets out onto the steps of an enormous ziggurat (sp?), made of white sand, rising up from the ocean, and almost reaching the sun-- I begin to climb its steps, and I wake up-- trying to remember the name of the island, whose name begins with the letter 'P,' and maybe has an 'S' in it-- (something like pagos, or maybe pesache*???) *sounds like pesach, or Passover, but am not Jewish in real life, tho' I grew up in NYC.

What does this dream mean-- wish fulfillment? sexual symbolism? ...I'm on vacation with my boyfriend... we fly (by plane) to a tropical paradise-- somewhere near Thailand, Vietnam, or maybe the Seychelles-- to an island, with a name that begins with the letter 'P'... we arrive at the place we'll be staying, suitcases in hand-- it's not a hotel, but a beautiful dream home, that we've managed to purchase somehow-- I'm overjoyed-- we'll be living there, from now on-- in a series of charmingly rustic wooden cabins-- the cabins are on stilts-- each cabin contains a single room (most of the rooms are square, or rectangular in shape) & they stretch from the white sand beach, out into the turquoise water, connected to each other by suspension bridges made of rope & wooden slats. We enter the first cabin, and begin to explore our new home-- each cabin leading to the next, on and on... cabin, suspension bridge, cabin, suspension bridge... the turquoise water is breathtakingly beautiful, & calm... there are no glass panes in the cabin windows-- the windows are square, open to the air; they frame the sea & sky, so that it looks like a painting, and balmy, sea breezes pour in... the cabins are spare-- most contain no furniture at all, or else they are simply decorated-- one room contains a single woven hammock-- another has a white canopy bed, and a marble & oak washstand-- another contains a few large, red clay vases, a few seashells (yoni symbolism?), and a Japanese pottery incense burner, w/ incense burning in it... most of the rooms are empty, though-- I don't mind... mmkay. i need HELP planning a trip to the bahamas!? mmkay:) this summer, me, my mom and dad, my sister, my aunt, my uncle, 4 cousins, and my grandpa and grandma are probably going to the bahamas:) i cant wait! the only problem is with my younger cousins they want a hotel with all enclusive meals (4 year olds are picky eaters!) this is making it hard to find a place to stay. anywhoo... i found this place...its called paradise island harbour resort and its like on the beach. the total cost for 3 rooms for 5 nights, an incuded breakfast, lunch and dinner, and round trip flights will be $10,181. is this resonable? when i asked my mom about the resonability of the price she agreed but when i tried to show her she told me to go to bed! any tips to convince what i have found is a good idea? thanks:)
