Sequoia or Redwood National Park? Hi, I'm planning a trip to California next May and I'm trying to decide between going to Sequoia or Redwood National Park. Is one better/prettier than the other? I'd like to go to both, but they are about 10 hours apart. I'd love to drive through the featured huge trees I see online. Not sure if that can be done in both.
How cold does it get in the redwood region of California during winter? Ive never been there, but plan on moving around the redwood national park.
Best Redwood Forest Near San Francisco? My family and I are planning a visit to California this summer. I am a forester, so I want to see the giant redwoods in addition to the giant sequoias. My family would rather visit tourist destinations in San Fransisco, while I would rather see the trees. They refuse to travel to Redwood National Park due to the distance from San Fran. In your opinion, what is the best redwood forest or park that is within a couple hours of San Fran?
How would you set up this triangle? The question is: "Redwood trees in California's Redwood National Park are hundreds of feet tall. A sighting to the top of one of these trees is taken x feet away from the tree's base at an angle of elevation of 44 degrees. You go another 100 feet and take another sighting at an angle of elevation of 37.2 degrees. What is the height of the tree?" How would you set up the triangle?

What to do in California with a 1 year old? We are heading to visit my brother in LA then off to Redwood national park for a bit- the problem is what else to do for about 10 days? Which of these hairstyles do you like for an updo for a renewal of vows? I need some suggestions please.? I'm having a renewal of vows in the California Redwood National Park. My hair is VERY THICK, naturally wavy, and hangs almost to my waist. I am a hairstylist & barber by profession, but I don't want to do my own hair. I've got an oval shaped face, so I can pretty much wear just about any hairstyle. I am conservative, Southern Baptist lady, who does NOT cut her hair. So I'm looking for elegant & stylish styles without being to young or to old. I'm 38 years old, but I will 39 when we have our renewal of vows. I use the "It's a 10" styling products when I do fix my hair. Other wise, I just wash, condition my hair daily, and I also clarify & deep condition once a week. There are some of the ideas that I have for my hair. 1: http://www.curly-hair-styles-magazine.com/long-curly-updos-10.html 2: http://www.curly-hair-styles-magazine.com/curly-wedding-hair-05.html 3: http://www.curly-hair-styles-magazine.com/curly-wedding-hair-02.html I'm looking for help & suggestions please. If you know of any other sites that would be great. Please no snide, rude or nasty comments, thanks.
Can someone help me with appositives questions? ASAP? Can someone put this sentence into a appositive sentence? Have you ever been to Redwood National Park? It is a national park in California. Thanks,:)
could someone explain this article to me? Stunted redwoods, flooded campgrounds and a mighty Yosemite waterfall reduced to a trickle. Those are a few of the dire consequences facing 10 California parks over the next century because of rapidly changing climate patterns, according to a new study by an environmental think tank. "We're trying to illustrate that the ways we affect the climate affect the places we love," said Stephen Saunders, a former deputy at the U.S. Department of the Interior under President Bill Clinton and president of the nonprofit Rocky Mountain Climate Organization in Denver. "It's not just about ice caps and polar bears. This is going to hit us at home." The report released Tuesday by Saunders' group and the Natural Resources Defense Council, titled "California's National Parks in Peril: the Threats of Climate Disruption," found that unless humans slash carbon emissions in the near term, some of the Golden State's natural wonders will disappear over the next 90 years. Ripple effect of heat The main culprit is a steadily warming atmosphere stoked by a cauldron of heat-trapping pollution. If the use of fossil fuels continues to increase at a moderate clip, average temperatures in Yosemite National Park could climb by 7.5 degrees in the latter third of the 21st century. Temperatures in Muir Woods National Monument and Point Reyes National Seashore could increase by about 6 degrees - making them higher than historic temperatures in Santa Barbara. Highs in places such as Joshua Tree National Park and the Mojave National Preserve could top the blistering temperatures normally found in Death Valley, the hottest spot in North America. Those few degrees have drastic implications for water supply, vegetation growth, insect infestation, loss of animal habitat and wildfire risk, Saunders reported. Many parks affected Among the study's most startling predictions: -- Joshua trees, which need low seasonal temperatures to produce seeds, could disappear from the namesake Southern California park. -- Beaches, wetlands and picnic areas at Point Reyes National Seashore could be inundated as sea levels rise between 2 and 4.7 feet. -- Less snow and more rain could mean earlier, longer and more frequent dry spells for Yosemite Falls. -- Fewer foggy days in Muir Woods and Redwood National Park could limit the growth of sequoias. The 34-page report relied on weather modeling and greenhouse gas data from the California Climate Change Center, U.S. National Park Service, U.S. Geological Survey and UC San Diego, among others. In addition to Tuesday's report, the group has studied climate change impacts on parks across Virginia and in several states in the Western United States. One of Saunders' most staggering conclusions is that the glaciers in Montana's Glacier National Park could melt in the next two decades. Tuesday's findings echo those outlined by others, including researchers in the Bay Area, the U.S. government and the United Nations' Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. In fact, many scientists long involved in those efforts now believe Earth's atmosphere is warming even more quickly than thought just a few years ago. Measuring impacts A California Energy Commission paper last year concluded that the state is already experiencing measurable impacts because of climate change, including more frequent, longer and larger wildfires, a warming Lake Tahoe, a shorter winter rainy season, and falling snowpack levels. Both studies contend climate change poses grave threats to California's economy. Visitors to California's national parks, for instance, spend about $1.2 billion each year. Climate change also has taken on political urgency this fall, as California voters will decide next week the fate of AB32, the state's landmark 2006 measure that intends to cut greenhouse gas emissions by 25 percent by 2020, returning them to 1990 levels. Opponents want to freeze the regulations with Proposition 23, saying moving forward with limits on greenhouse gases will stifle job growth in California amid a sluggish economy. Supporters insist AB32's policies will boost a burgeoning green technology industry and stave off some of the most devastating effects of climate change. Regardless of the election's outcome, most experts agree that the pollution humans have pumped into the air for generations will be with us for some time. "Even a scenario that drastically curtails emissions of greenhouse gases may still lead to undesirable trends in warming and sea level rise," the energy commission report stated i rly need help :P please thanks :)
What's there to see in California? I'm planning my 2nd trip (1st was great), but this time my folks and I will be taking a flight to either San Francisco or Sacramento. The problem is thu far the only stops I have on the list are: Yosemite Nat. Park, San Francisco, Muir Redwoods and anything else along the way. However I feel as though I'm shot on stops for a 1-week excursion, if anyone has other national parks, redwood forests, etc. to recommend I'd gladly take them into consideration.
California Road Trip for two teen best friends? My best friend and I want to go on a vacation together. We're both currently 18, but we still need time to save for the trip so it will be another year or so before we take the trip. We live on Long Island in New York and want to experience a dramatically different landscape and we think California is just the ticket. I have already done some research and have picked out a few spots I definitely want to check out, but several questions remain about how much time I should dedicate to each destination and the economics of the whole endeavor - we're both students and are on a relatively tight budget. I know we wont be able to do everything I've picked and I'd like some advice on what to do and what to skip. We'd like to balance serene natural experiences with exciting city adventures. As far as nightlife goes, we not into dance clubs and would prefer live music venues. Some suggestions for each city listed would be greatly appreciated. We love rock and alternative music. I also have an obsession with french fries. If you know of any great places for french fries along our journey please share them with me. When we go to the national parks we would camp but when in the bigger cities we could also use some suggestions for cool hotels that arent too pricey. Here are the places I would like to visit. San Diego Torrey Pines State Reserve Los Angeles Channel Islands National Park Hearst Castle Big Sur Monterey Santa Cruz San Francisco Point Reyes National Seashore Yosemite Lake Tahoe Mendocino Arcata Redwood National Park In the daytime we would like to check out parks, zoos, art galleries and museums, as well as architectural landmarks and interesting neighborhoods. Any points of interest that you could contribute for any of these destinations would be greatly appreciated, I'm just trying to gather as much information as possible.
Which California National Forest would be great for camping? I live In Los Angeles California and my friends and I are planning a camping trip in April. I just want to hear some of your opinions about the National Forests. What are your experiences at these places. We really do not care how far we drive, we just want a good feeling of adventure. We like Redwood National Forest because of the huge ancient Redwood trees, but we are wondering if there are any other places that are just as nice. I am sure all the parks Have there beauty. So I would appreciate if i can get your experiences in any of these parks for those that have been camping there before. We will be camping with Tents just the stereotypical camping scenario, nothing fancy.
Unusual Motels in Northern California? I'm looking for any unique, fun, inexpensive (under $125 please) places to stay anywhere north of San Francisco by the 101 up to about the Redwood National Park. I'm looking for things like tree houses, log cabins, teepees, weird decor, "Roadside America"-type places. Thanks a lot!
Why don't USA Conservatives like the state of California? You know how they say the farther West you go, the more you are in the free world? Well the west end of western civilization is California. Some History: In California, the American dream tells a magical story "73 men sailed out to the San Francisco Bay....Ride Captain Ride upon your mystery ship".....these were the men of Sir Francis Drake's expendition.....before the pioneers even got there. Americans freedom is about loving an pursuing happiness with everything you consume, center to this is Ghirardelli Chocolate in the square in San Francisco. finding the way to absolute hippie freedom....telegraph Avenue, Berkeley, California Cherishing our national Parks (Ted Roosevelt's mission) - even the old Republicans were for the national park missions - and California has the Sierra, the Redwoods, Yosemite California is very capitalist in its selling of hollywood Cinema and popcorn and theatres. California embraces innovation in the Silicon Valley/Palo Alto region California education speaks for itself: Stanford, Cal Tech, UC Berkeley, lots of top schools California has more consumer protection laws than any other state, also employee protections such as if you are being background searched for drugs, you do not have to reveal if you some marijuana you can smoke marijuana for medicinal purposes in California California has a near perfect moderate climate where you don't need corporate utilities (A/C - Central heating to survive) you can grow your own grapes in California and live on a vineyard and love the land itself In California, if bored, you can take a drive up Pacific Highway on a sunset and leave all your troubles behind. I see more of the spirit of freedom and the American dream in California than I ever hear from USA Conservatives. why is this? and California has an amazing melting pot of Mexicans and Asians and Liberals and fruits and nuts California's budget is in good hands in Sacramento

Which is better: Redwood NP or Sequoia NP? We're taking a trip to California in a few weeks, and we are considering visiting either the Redwoods or Sequoia National Park. We are coming from Texas so it will take a bit longer to make it to Redwood. So I would like to know if it is worth it to go all the way to the Redwoods, or if Sequoia would be just about as spectacular.
How is my global warming essay? Satire: Please tell me how good it is, thanks :) As humans release more carbon dioxide, air pollution, and fossil fuel exhaust into the air, it is eminent that global warming is likely to occur. These “impurities” causes the sun to activate the greenhouse effect upon which global warming is the heating of the globe, thus the polar ice caps in Antarctica shall melt and create a monstrous amount of water that will approach nearby civilizations at a rate of approximately 50 mph. 20% of those who are to drown are people, 30% are those who can’t swim, the other 50% are children and midgets. Insurance companies will demand more money to cover you for the apocalypse and teaching swimming lessons will only waste time. Life as we know it will cease to exist. In order for such epidemics to be avoided, there are possible ways to counter. First off, since global warming will not happen until two generations past us, humanity should be advised that their great grandchildren will suffer the consequences. However, there is a solution to this: we must all stop giving birth to children, starting today and there will be no more concern for them once we all die off and become extinct. Also, birth control will be beneficial to the world as there will be no more mouths to feed and the starving children of Africa will have something to eat. Abortions and adoptions shall never take place, which means there will be no more people who are persecuted for being “exhausted”. Since their owners no longer have children, pets shouldn’t either, so have them be fixed or spayed. Thus, the entire animal kingdom should be fixed or spayed. Once this is done, we wouldn’t have to worry about overpopulation anymore. How beneficial. Another solution, if the one above is too difficult for people (especially young people), is to build an ark. Regardless of how many trees help prevent carbon dioxide to be within the air and give us oxygen, global warming will destroy them all, so I suggest bringing together all the lumberjacks who could be scouted, cutting down the trees of the world, since there is no other use for them. Noah’s ark took over 100 years to build with all those trees he had to lop off himself. Now that we live in a world of technology, we can build a universal ark even faster than Noah’s sawing methods. Approximately 55,000 Redwood trees from Sequoia National Park in California will be enough wood for the ark as well as the dimensions: at least 1500 meters long, 350 meters wide 230 meters high. Board the ship with only polar bears, penguins, seals, and Eskimos, since they will face the disaster first. Humanity will board as is. To prevent any casualties within the ark, throw overboard any criminals, terror suspects, and insane psychopaths for a more luxurious cruise. To keep the ride entertaining, I suggest adding an outside pool on deck big enough for the whole world to swim in. Add an inside dining hall with famous chefs, live shows from stars, and a suite for you and your family. If it does not suit you to drown the infidels, then perhaps build a dungeon in the ark and employ them for manual labor, as well as anyone who does not follow the rules. Enjoy your stay for eternity! For those of you who find that leaving your homes and possessions unbearable, (as I must admit there is no place like home) may pool your life time supply of insurance to one gigantic amount of money to help build a rocket ship launched towards the sun to destroy it and prevent it from causing global warming. The sun’s heat temperature is approximately 15 million degrees, thus anything approaching will instantly be disintegrated. To prevent that from happening, I suggest humanity fill the rocket ship with 1392000000000 liters of liquid helium reduced to absolute zero which freezes anything. Once NASA launches the rocket, it will head towards the sun and as the sun’s rays destroy the surface of the ship, the liquid helium will be released onto to sun’s surface. Right at that moment the sun’s atmosphere will freeze instantly, mummifying it with a frozen cover. Hooray! The sun is frozen and humanity shall never worry about global warming ever again! Your children will embrace you and say, “Mom! I love you so much for destroying the sun! Now it will be winter forever and we can make snowmen every single day!” Of course, you will have to dress warmly and take Tylenol as the weather will get chilly. Even better, there are other benefits to destroying the sun; no beacon for alien life forms to follow, no more sweat, no more blind people, no more sunburns, no more skin cancer, no more miserable albinos, the list goes on and on! Therefore, it is logical that we must remove the sun from our lives to prevent the above hazards that might befall us, our children, and the albino community!
Is it possible to do a "green" roadtrip? My green credentials were recently called into question because of a blurb in my Yahoo bio saying I loved roadtrips. What I meant was that I travel to places like Kings Canyon National Park, Death Valley, northern California redwood grooves, Anza -Borrego State Park -- places where you can't take the train, or a bus unless you're on a group tour -- and if you've ever travelled on a bus you know they're not "green!" -- and hitchhiking is illegal and would be cumbersome with all my gear. Sometimes a friend or two comes along, and of course we carpool! Rather than add to the bio, I deleted the reference, but I love to visit our wildlands and yet I do want to be green in doing so. My car gets above-average gas milage, I don't take lots of side trips, and once I get there I'm using my own two feet to get around. But is there anything else I can do to make my road trips "green?"
Big Sur, CA? I'm just wondering if the Big Sur area of California has the same giant redwoods as Redwoods National Park does? I'm going to be out there in a couple months, and it would be easier to make a stop in Big Sur on my way from San Fransisco to San Diego then it would be to drive 3 or 4 hours north of 'Frisco to the national park.

Why are parks and forest in southern California so ugly? Like the Angeles National Forest. It's not a forest. It's filled with shrub, rocks, dried sand. It's ugly. Trees in southern california are ugly. you have to go to northern california to see those beautiful redwoods.

WEST COAST must sees and dont sees? Hi In less than two weeks, we are leaving for a trip. Our driving plan is this - go down Interstate 5 from Northern Washington to Anaheim California where we will spend some time at Disney. Then we will head to Big Sur via Hwy 101 and Hwy 1. We will stop at Solvang and Mendocino. From Big Sur we will go to Carmel and Monterey, then San Francisco and the Redwood National Recreation Area in Northern California. From there, we will stay on the coast stopping in to visit the Dinosaur Park (?) and the Sand Dunes. Continuing the coast to Astoria then back to Interstate 5 for a fast dash home. My question comes to this. Along this pathway, do you have any suggestions for places to STOP AND SEE???? We have 2 children (10 and 12) in our traveling party along with an elementary teacher. Have you toured the Dunes? Do you have any reccomendations? Do you have any words as to places to AVOID?
Giant Sequois to die because of a .0001 increase in co2? these trees are over 1200 years old, does anyone believe this? Why do conservatives oppose conservation? When he was Governor of California, Ronald Reagan worked to remove the giant redwood from the protected list so they could be clearcut. He insisted that most of the pollution in the forest actually came from the trees, and when challenged pointed at all the needles and cones on the forest floor. When he was President he appointed James Watt to cabinet to dismantle the EPA and sell off mineral rights in national parks. Reagan claimed to be a conservative, but what did he conserve? Now his spiritual successors are screaming against any pollution control at all, and raging at anybody who gives any credence to environmentalists.
Tips and tricks for a long road trip with diabetes? So I am going on a road trip west to see the Redwoods in California. I am going from mid-June to mid-July. I'm planning on hiking in as many national parks as possible and maybe looking at real estate in Oregon. I have Type 1 diabetes, and I wanted to see if any of you have any suggestions. I know all the basics, take what you need and extra just in case, keep a prescription handy in case you need a refill, keep the insulin in a cooler, snacks in every bag and the car. The kind of stuff I mean is I know a guy who takes a coffee thermos, fills it halfway with ice, and then sticks his insulin in wrapped in paper towels and a ziplock, to take up the mountain for two days. Anything you would learn from having this experience before. Also if you can think of any specific place or activity I should look for when I get there. Thanks in advance! And remember, most creative, innovative, and useful answer gets the points.
Year long backpacking trip: permits and laws? I am a student in California and I'm planning a one year backpacking trip from Mexico border to Canada, and need to know what laws will restrict me and what permits/licenses I need. Will be following california coastline until Redwoods area, after that we should be staying pretty close to Pacific Crest Trail but not all the time. Camping on beaches? Camping with a hearing dog? (one of the campers is slightly deaf and she wants her dog with her, what are the laws for bringing him into state/national parks/forests? Is Yosemite going to be a problem for her? He's very quiet and professionally trained). Campfires? Is there a pass that will give me access to all public parks/forests/etc.? Or do I seriously have to pay each and every camping fee for every stinking camp ground we stay in on the way? If we end up getting a fine for something like camping in an undesignated area or whatever, can I wait until the end of the trip to handle the court appearance/fees/etc.? Is there any way to get some of the fees wavered? Like attending classes and getting permits or something? We aren't planning on doing any hunting/fishing along the way. And is there a good resource for getting state/ county maps with tons of trails on them? Getting a little tired of using fifty different maps and books....
Great forests to go camping in California, need ideas please...? My husband and i are looking to go camping the end of this month. We were trying to find a campground in I guess whats called a national forest or redwoods..etc. A year ago we stayed in Guernville's Austin Creek SRA and we enjoyed it alot since we could see the HUGE trees as well as a moderate drive to the coast/Jenner. Honestly, do you love America despite the Neo-conservatism? I admit the scenery in America can get magnificent (in places)....what a beautiful country. The California typography is surreal, from the Desert to the Pacific to the Redwoods to the valley to San Francisco Bay to the vineyards to the Sierra to Yosemite....to Big Sur.....to Hollywood and the celebrities.....it MAKES America! I LOVE driving across Ohio and seeing the smalltown hardworking Union industrial towns that built the backbone of America. I love the independent eccelectic sleepless New York, NY. I love the vision of paradise you sense in Walt Disney World Resorts in Orlando and the Beaches of Miami. The French Culture of New Orleans. The glitter of Las Vegas. The history of the native peoples in the Dakotas, the carvings of our forefathers on the stones of Mount Rushmore. The people of the Rockies in Colorado.... the hospitality of the South The ever still grasslands of Texas The Colonial settlements and battlefields of Virginia. The slow-cooked Barbecue of the Carolinas... The serenity of America's National Parks and State Parks. The 10,000 Lakes and wooden cabins and cottages and churches, of Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Michigan.... what a BEAUTIFUL COUNTRY!!!! We are blessed to live in this country. But what is with the neo-conservatives who want to take everything down and put Walmarts everywhere and bail out AIG and big companies instead of helping small businesses and poor families? what are we doing to this BEAUTIFUL country.... This country is too beautiful to destroy with bad politics. Can we at least agree on that? And before you all die, you need to take drive along Arizona's Desert hills and hike the Grand Canyon
Is this ok for a holographic will? I typed this out, and I am going to hand-write it as a holographic will. Will this suffice? I know a holographic will does not need witnesses, but I figured it couldn't hurt to have a couple sign it for me. Any tips? Changes? I am in TX by the way. Thanks... This is my last will and testament. In the event of my death, I leave all of my possessions to my wife, (name). If there are any assets of value at that time, and my daughter (name) is in need, said spouse is to use up to 50% of these assets to make provision for her. I also would like to state here my wish to have my body cremated and portions of my ashes mailed to all of the places I haven't had the chance to visit. As of now, these include: England, Scotland, Wales, Ireland, Thailand, Cambodia (Angkor Watt), Australia, New Zealand, Hawaii, Mt. Rushmore in North Dakota, San Diego, CA, Germany, Spain, Holland (Amsterdam specifically), Yellowstone National Park, the Redwood Forest in California, and Greece I suggest finding someone in each of these places to mail the ashes to and asking them to scatter them once they receive them. Of course, if anyone who knows me is willing to take the ashes to any of the places to have them scattered, that is also allowable.
