How long will it take to drive from Santa Monica to Crescent City, CA?

Our relatives have made this trip many times in the past, so will be making as few stops as possible. We're just wondering how long it might take so we have an idea when to start worrying.

1. Non-stop, I'd say about 12-13 hours. I drove from Medford, Oregon (just over the border) to LA in 12 hours, with a nice stop in Sacramento. But then, I was just crusing down the 5 the whole way. You'd have to get over to the coast sometime up there, which would probably entail some smaller highways.
