High elevation = Nausea?
i live in crescent city, ca where if u want to travel anywhere out of it you gotta go through the mountains. i get nausea due to the change of elevation. my husband and i have to go all the way down to sacramento next monday for a follow up of a surgery he had. i'm extremely dreading the nausea and having to stop to puke 4/5 times on the way there. anyone have any suggestions of remedy aides to help me get through the long 6-8 hr drive? i'd really appreciate it!

- hmm you could try like anti nausea wrist bands (there meant for travel sickness, but they can used for anti nausea aswell) also just try and relax a bit, maybe get some fresh air in the car or whatever as being a bit anxious whilst your in there doesnt help. plus as its a long drive, maybe fall asleep in car if you can, that wil pass time and yeah, help you =]
- Are you sure it's not motion sickness? Moderately windy roads through disorienting forest can be too much for some people. If that is the case, try taking Dramamine before you leave (it will make you sleepy, but that sounds better than puking). Real altitude sickness would be at elevations much higher than what you will be driving.
- Sometimes nausea and high elevation are linked with a type of vertigo. The body senses perception of space and balance in the inner ear - when we feel that our perception of this has changed, we may feel a little unsure on our feet. In a raised and elevated spaces, often in wide open spaces, we feel a bit disorientated and often dizzy and sick. It may be an idea to have your GP check your ear canals before travelling - they cannot see to the inner ear but it is worth ruling out any ear problems. When you are travelling, try to visualise that you are rooted to the ground in some way, that you feel your feet are solid on the ground, that you feel 'earthed'. This way you'll help reduce your awareness of being elevated. To try to quell the nausea, try taking some crystalised Ginger with you on your trip. Ginger is often recommended for pregnant women who experience morning sickness as it is gentle yet effective - and quite tasty!
