Beautiful beaches around New York City?

Which are the most beautiful beaches around New York? And how do I get there without a car? I want to visit New York and, in case of really good weather, I am planning a short trip to one of the most beautiful beaches there. There might be some but it has to be the perfect combination between accessibility, time and effort. So, we´ll be there without a car and need to go there by train or bus. Who has a really good idea????

1. Jones Beach out on the Island, i wouldn't reccomend going to the beach in the NY area. They are all really gross. but jones is the best. but still gross
2. Southern Long Island, from Brooklyn to Montauk, is one long beautiful beach --sometimes the beach is on the main island, sometimes on barrier islands. The beach itself is beautiful, but the neighborhoods abutting them vary. The Brooklyn subways run to Coney Island and Brighton Beach. You might think that, because they are on a subway line, they are close by, but the trip out of Manhattan is long, a good hour or thereabouts. If you're that interested, research those locations and see if they fit your bill. Good luck!
