Can you transfer a section 8 housing voucher to a different county prior to using it?

Can you tell them you wanna move before you have rented a place in the program in your current town? And does this apply everywhere; I.E. will all housing authorities allow you to do this? For instance, I am in Crescent City ca and am transfering to the university and getting my section 8 voucher soon, but the university is in another county. Can I just tell them I want to move to a specific area right away, and will they allow this? Or must I live in my area with the voucher first? I've lived here for like 5 years. I've heard confilicting stories out of different areas. Please help! they won't tell me when I call.

1. you will have to re apply for the county you will be staying in. the reason is because section 8 is paid through county taxes. so another county is not going to pay for you to live elsewhere.
2. You can not transfer in under a year, and even then you have to ahve a really good reason. You will not qualify as a college student though.
3. lemme guess..humboldt county? lol..im from the area..crescent city..really miss it up there.! but yeah, anyways your going to have to re-apply if you are moving to humboldt which im just guessing, then you have to re-apply out there but shouldnt be that hard..anyways good luck with the move..!
