Honeymoon to Greece?
I am getting married next month and am interested in honeymooning in greece in Sept. I am so confused as to which island we should stay at. I've heard mixed reviews about Crete, Mykonos, and Santorini. We want to be somewhere relaxing and not too busy but also not too secluded from people. If anyone has been to Greece, what are the beaches like? Are there only black sand beaches? Is sept. a good month to go? Any other recommendations on other honeymoon spots? Thank you

- I haven't been to Greece, but I work in the travel industry and I put together a lot of Greece honeymoon packages. The most popular itinerary is along the lines of two nights Athens, 3 nights Mykonos, 3 nights Santorini (or vice versa), and one last night in Athens, just to make it easier to fly out the next day. Mykonos is more of a beach destination, with resorts and things, Santorini is more cliffs and rocks and that type of scenery. Season-wise, everything shuts down on the islands from Octoberish-Marchish, so I wouldn't go any later than September. Italy is pretty popular for honeymoons as well, doing something like three nights Rome, three nights Florence, three nights Venice, or maybe throwing a three night Tusan villa stay in there between Florence and Venice.
- Black sand beaches are only on Santorini, I thought, because it is volcanic. 99.9% of greek beaches are white. September is a very good month to go because it is not too hot, it is a very nice temperature (20-25 degrees approx). The beaches in greece are very good, amongst the best in Europe.
- I just came from santorini,,well,at santorini the basic is the great sunset that you can enjoy and of course the traditional houses..there the beaches are black and the don't have much sand..why don't you look for Paros??-September i agree its the best season!
- I would suggest Santorini or Mykonos - also don't miss Athens. It is fabulous. Mykonos is wonderful and there are several secluded areas that would be wonderful. The beaches are nice, but the water is a bit cool. It is not like the carribean. If I was going, I would seriously consider Mykonos in the Ornos Beach area. Get a hotel with a private pool. You'll love it. Congrats and have fun :)
- My suggestion is the Ionian Islands, on the West side of mainland Greece. Part of the Adriatic sea. Corfu, the main of the seven Islands has beaches accessible within a few minutes all around the island and beautifully romantic scenery that will satisfy anyone. September is the usually exceptional month weather-wise because is neither too hot, nor very cold. Actually is the perfect time to visit Greece, because of the weather and due to fewer tourists. Visiting the rest of the island is an easy thing to be done by hydroplanes that flight daily and with reasonable prices. Visiting the islands suggested by the rest of the answerers is also an experience to be had. Should you need more info the site below can help you.
- mykonos is famous for its night life and the greek celevrities that go there for vacations. it is very busy and crowded all summer. crete is a simple island like mine-cyprus so i would recommend that you come here! cz we have great hotels! santorini is a romantic place to live your passion... amyway, in september all the islands will be less crouded so you can go anywhere you like!
- i believe that santorini is best for honeymoon. just look at the photos and you'll understand. there's nothing bad with the black beaches.
- The only reason i would suggest you Santorini is because you will be able to see the best sunset in your life.It is a rather crowded island though. Crete is a nice destination for your honeymoon. It has beautiful sandy beaches, smooth and white like powder and blue crystal waters. It has crowded places, but it has also places with a few or no people where you can relax. There are so many things to tell about crete.... - Hi Luca, Everyone but everyone will recommend Crete, Santorini, Mykonos and Rhodes to you. These are the "famous" Greek islands that everybody goes to and everybody knows about and, yes, they are beautiful places but, certainly during the high season (and although September is the end of the high season), they are absolutely heaving with tourists - hardly the sort of thing I would have thought you'd want for a honeymoon. Take a little tip from a Greek - find yourself a Greek island that does not rely heavily on the tourist industry and you'll find yourself a piece of heaven. We had our honeymoon on the island of Paxos, the next island south of Corfu. If you take a villa around the northern villages of Lakki and Loggos, you can be in the middle of the countryside, but just a 15 minute drive away is the main town of Gaios where there are shops, restaurants, a night club, and the smart set turn up with their yachts and motor cruisers on the harbour front. The beauty of the island is that you can be quiet and secluded when you want to be, and mix in with people when you feel like a buzz. It is full of scented pine forest and, on the west side, you can watch the sun set over the sea from the top of the cliffs while the swallows circle above you. On the east coast there are some lovely beaches. I hope you enjoy wherever you go.
