The most beautiful beaches around NYC?

Hi, I will be in NYC this summer for a 15 days holiday. Could you give me some good tips about the best ans most beautiful beaches not too far from the city. Many thanks.

5. Jones Beach is nice, very popular hangout...but if you trek along Ocean Parkway for about 20 minutes or so, Robert Moses State Park beach is prettier! The Jersey Shore also has good beaches. I totally recommend Point Pleasant Beach...right on the boardwalk, there's nice restaurants, an amusement park, tons of things to do.....someone blasting Frank Sinatra out of his house...lol!
6. Long Island beaches would be your best bet!
7. The better beaches will be further from the city. Tony S. has the best answer so far. Robert Moses is by far a nicer beach than Jones. Any exceptional qualities at Jones are out weighted by the huge crowds. That being said, Jones is more easily reached by public transport. You might also look into Fire Island (http://www.nps.gov/fiis/planyourvisit/publictransportation.htm), also accessible by public transport. If you have access to a car, the further east the better!
