Where can a family of 6 go in florida on a beautiful beach with affordable accomidations?

Me and my wife want to take our 4 children (ages 3, 6, 9 and 13) to Florida for vacation. We dont want to go to disney world. We want to enjoy ourselves on a beautiful beach without the whole party thing. We just want to relax and shop. Any ideas where we could stay that alows 6 people in a room?

Either, St Pete beach, Clearwater Beach...Hotels have adjoining rooms, try condos. I live on Indian Rocks beach, 2miles south of Clearwater Beach....
The whole Gulf Coast has some of the most beautiful beaches in the country. All around Tampa, just outside the city would be a good place to start. The water is calmer & warmer than the Atlantic side, though they have some beautiful beaches as well. Make sure you go after spring break is over.
The Tradewinds resorts at St Pete Beach are very nice. You can get a suite with two double beds and a sofa bed. My family has stayed there several times and like them very much. There are two resorts the Sandpiper and Island Grand. The Island Grand is bigger and has more amenities, but as a guest of the Sandpiper you are welcome to use all the resort amenities at both and they are a 2 minute walk (or less) down the beach from one another. The Sandpiper is also less expensive and was recently gutted and completely remodeled. The Sandpiper's parking is better, too because the Island Grand is so large you could have a much further walk from your room to your car. The beach is beautiful white sand, gentle waves, gorgeous sunsets. You've got several restaurants to choose from and plentiful supervised children's activities. orlando doesn't have a beach--the disney hotels that have a "beach" are man-made, its not the ocean--if you want ocean--Ft. Lauderdale is great...if you want disney with a "beach" the Polynesian, Grand Floridian, Contemporary--we stay at the poly--it reminds me of Hawaii--I just love it. Also, Beach and Yach Club~~~~
