Anyone know some decently priced Beach type areas/resorts to stay at in Japan not including the Okinawa area?
Do not want Okinawa because it's me and a bunch of military buddies tryin to get away from a while and we don't want to be near a base area. Travel isn't important, just need the names of some Not too pricey nice relaxing beach type places in Japan to check out and stay at for a week or so.

- How about Izu or Atami. Both are near from Pacific ocean, famous hot springs and fish restaurants.
- I would recommend you Niijima! The campsite and the hot springs are free! It is a very beautiful island and easy to get to! You can rent some bicycles there and tour the island! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Niijima
- Amami Oshima is military free and has so many very beautiful white sand beach everywhere. http://www3.synapse.ne.jp/a-k-i/umi/bi-ti/b-hokubu.html
- Not all Okinawan islands have bases and I don't think the other ones get highly frequented by servicemen so it's a shame they don't get to see the other side to Okinawa but at the same time, this is to your benefit as they won't be as crowded. (Most Japanese tourists don't even make their way there either because for the cost, they'd rather go abroad.) The other islands are much more laid back and so the beaches won't be as busy but the water will still be gorgeous, warm sand, etc. There might be some bed and breakfast type places (minshoku, ryokan) if you are into that or you could go for a more traditional hotel or something the likes of Club Med Kabira (Ishigaki). Ishigaki Island is next to Iriomote Island, which is a wilderness sanctuary. Miyako Island nearby does not have military either. Kerama islands are closest to mainland Okinawa and also, no military bases. The Amami Islands used to be part of Okinawa but now part of Kagoshima. There's a lot of little islands under control of Tokyo and one was already mentioned. However, getting to any of these islands is not exactly a decent price, unless perhaps you live near there. These island will have the best beaches though because mainland Japan beaches don't have that nice sub-tropical feel that Okinawa, Amami, etc. have. If you're not into sub-tropical beaches though you could go to any beach in Japan so just pick a place within your budget. When I lived in Okinawa, we drove across some bridges to an island or two away from the mainland and there were some nice resorts and we never saw any military there. In fact, we just camped on the beach but first asked permission from the resort. They didn't mind as long as we were out of their way.
