  1. Thailand
  2. For friendliness, the Philippines. We are well known for our hospitality and for a good reason. We are friendly! For low prices, the Philippines. We are a shopper's paradise! For beautiful beaches, the Philippines. Our very own Boracay (and that's just one of many) consistently makes it in the Top Ten Favorite Tourist Destinations.
  3. I wouldn't go to Thailand for anything. All they got there is funny talking skin trade pros.
  4. It would be better to go backpacking in the Philippines. Filipinos are generally friendly and it is currently safer. There is some unrest in Thailand. Get a book on how to rough it up, a second hand book will do. Backpacker's places have not changed much. You can travel the islands at a low budget and most Filipinos speak or understand English. You can go to Boracay for the beach with a nightlife, or go to other islands in the Isalnds of the Visayas by ferrying around. In Cebu, travel on the public bus, ferry to Negros, then you can ferry to Bohol, take local buses to see the tarsier and the chocolate hills. You can ask at the Cebu airport for info on how to go to the different islands. Try Siargao for surfing. There are plenty of islands. Otherwise, go to Coron and look for an inexpensive hostel in town, proceed to Palawan for the underground river and El Nido in the north. Aside from beaches, you should try going to Banaue/Sagada.
  5. I have never been to Thailand so can't compare but I know some really cheap and nice places for back packers in the Philippines Two of my favourites are Camiguin Island and Dinagat Island.
